Weekly #066 | 3 Lessons from a Savvy Nigerian Content Creator
Tool of the Week: Taplio
This week, Iām sharing Taplio. You mightāve heard me praise BlackMagic for Twitter. Well, Taplio is the LinkedIn equivalent. It's great for managing, scheduling, and generating posts. Its analytics is also incredibly insightful. Itās used by folks like Justin Welsh, and is one of those tools you just have to try out for yourself to understand ā highly recommended!

š Rising Trend
One of the most impactful yet under-the-radar trends among successful YouTubers like Mikey Again ā a rising Nigerian content creator ā is the art of "Micro-Niche Storytelling".
A micro-niche is a highly specific subcategory within a larger market or industry. Instead of casting a wide net, Mikey focuses on an ultra-specific niche (in this case, toy car drop-shipping), sharing personal stories and experiences that resonate deeply with his target audience.
This approach not only builds a loyal community but also boosts engagement rates, as viewers feel a personal connection with the content. In the world of YouTube and TikTok, where the algorithm favors engagement, micro-niche storytelling can be a game-changer. For instance, Mikey's engagement rate has seen a 150% increase in the past year.
š 3 Key Lessons
Consistency is Key: This one gets touted a lot, but thatās because itās true. Mikey uploads content regularly, which social platforms love, ensuring his audience always has something new to look forward to. This consistent posting schedule has contributed to a 50% increase in his subscriber count over the past six months.
Great artists steal: Mikey very openly showed how he took the most viral videos, recreated them himself, and only slightly adjusted things. This is a great way to learn how the pros do it, then āadapt and innovateā from there. Itās no different to the way we learn as toddlers.
Donāt wait for perfect, but donāt be stupid either: Despite Mikey waiting some weeks for his toy cars to get delivered, he was very upfront about not being afraid to experiment. He would study what worked before him, then apply that pronto. This led to him having his first few videos do relatively well, then hitting a viral one on his 3rd or 4th.
š³š¬ Ancient Nigerian History
The art of storytelling, as practiced by Mikey, can be traced back to ancient Nigerian history. The Yoruba people, one of Nigeria's largest ethnic groups, have a rich tradition of oral storytelling. These stories, known as "Alo," were not just for entertainment but were tools for passing down wisdom, morals, and history. Just as Mikey uses personal stories to connect with his audience, the Yoruba storytellers used āAloā to bond communities together.

šÆ What This Means For Your Business
Embracing the art of micro-niche storytelling, as demonstrated by Mikey Again, can be a transformative strategy for micropreneurs. By focusing on an ultra-specific niche and sharing personal, relatable stories (often by āBuilding-In-Publicā), you can build a loyal community around your brand. This not only boosts engagement but also positions you as a trusted figure in your industry. But it also means ignoring any other interests while you focus.
ā Action Step
Start by identifying a micro-niche topic or experience that resonates with your target audience. Share a personal story or insight related to this niche in your next piece of content, be it a blog post, video, or social media update. For instance, a local artisanal soap maker recently shared her grandmother's 100-year-old soap recipe and the story behind it, leading to a 300% increase in sales. This approach is best suited for businesses that have a personal touch or a unique story to share.
