Alex Hormozi's $100M Leads Launch

Weekly #064 | Lessons From Ancient Storytellers to Opus Clip

Entrepreneurial types often find themselves juggling many roles. A useful tip is to learn from "the greats" of the past. Following their strategies isn't a weakness, it's a path to success. Consider the example of Alex Hormozi's recent webinar for his $100M Leads book launch, which garnered over 50,000 registrants. It’s a masterclass in modern marketing, even if it uses timeless storytelling and marketing principles from some of the greats (and that’s the point).

Alex Hermozi & His Marketing Masterclass

But first, who exactly is Alex Hormozi? He's a former gym owner and current business powerhouse. He’s best known for his first company, Gym Launch, which helps gym owners scale up their businesses. Today he owns Acquisition.com, a company that invests in other profitable startups. As a result, he wrote a book about his success strategies called $100M Offers: How To Make Offers So Good People Feel Stupid Saying No.

Alex Hormozi's book launch from over the weekend reminded me of some marketing principles I learned years ago while working for Daniel Priestley and his company Key Person of Influence (now called Dent). Despite the digital age, physical books are still effective lead generators.

The success of Hormozi's book launch wasn't just due to the webinar, of course, but his marketing approach and 4-years leading up.

Here are some of the best analyses I found online of what he did so well:

Hormozi primarily used social media, ads, and email marketing, to build anticipation, create engagement, and drive sales. He leaned on his teachings from experts like Dan Kennedy (the "Godfather of Marketing"), Russel Brunson (creator of Click Funnels), and Perry Marshall (creator of the 80/20 Principle in marketing).

Ancient Storytellers & Principles

Outside of the marketing greats, Hormozi also draws on the principles of ancient storytellers, such as Homer, Aesop, and the Brothers Grimm, to create stories that are engaging, memorable, and persuasive. How? Well let’s take a look:

  • He uses vivid language and imagery. To create stories that are easy to visualize and remember (see above image comparisons as an example).

  • He creates stories that are relevant to his audience. Hormozi understands that people are more likely to be engaged by stories that they can relate to.

  • He uses stories to teach his audience something. Hormozi believes that stories can be used to communicate important messages.

By following the principles of ancient storytellers, Hormozi has created marketing campaigns that have been successful in generating leads, driving sales, and building brands.

Sidenote: This is also why things like meme marketing is so powerful today - it's the modern form of storytelling. Regardless of the medium or tech, whoever tells the best story, wins.

Tech: Zoom & Opus Clip

From a tech perspective, Hormozi used a tool as simple as Zoom for his webinar, which makes sense since he had thousands in attendance (and Zoom has experience with scale, especially after COVID).

However, the most surprising tool that came out of people watching Hormozi’s webinar is Opus Clip, which is a platform that turns any video into Hormozi-style videos (yes, he has a unique style that you might have already seen online).

💡TIP: Choose Your “Great,” Study Them & Apply Something Consistently From Them

As a micropreneur, it's important to learn, adapt, and innovate. Hormozi applied successful strategies from the past to the present. He learned from “the greats” and adapted their strategies to his situation. When you look into the histories of most people you admire, you’ll find they all learned from someone “great” before them too.

Applying this tip is easier said than done though, right? Because we have more information than ever, so it’s easy to get distracted. But by intentionally choosing ONE person to study, then applying your learnings, you get to turn knowledge into wisdom.

For me, I’m currently studying Justin Welsh. What about you?
